The University of Oxford Social Sciences Division's annual Teaching Excellence Awards recognise outstanding contributions to teaching and learning and the academic development of students.

Professor Jennie Middleton, Associate Professor in Human Geography at the Transport Studies Unit, has been awarded a highly competitive British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship to support an innovative research project exploring the experiences of neurodivergent people navigating urban environments on foot.

Dr Murrey has received the 2026 Taylor and Francis Award by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in recognition of her excellence in the promotion and practice of teaching and learning in higher education.

SoGE hosted the City+2025@Oxford International Conference on Urban Studies in September, organised by SoGE DPhil students and welcoming over 175 participants worldwide

Three DPhil students from Engineering and Geography have won the First Prize in the 2025 European Competition on Net Zero Data Centres.

Alex Vasudevan has been awarded the title of Professor of Urban Geography, by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to his field of research, teaching and academic service.

A year ago, on November 9th 2022, the Economy and Society Research cluster, in partnership with the Faculty of Philosophy, hosted Andreas Malm, climate activist, to speak on eco-sabotage and on his latest research on the politics of overshoot.
