SoGE hosted the City+2025@Oxford International Conference on Urban Studies in September, organised by SoGE DPhil students and welcoming over 175 participants worldwide

City+2025@Oxford

The City+2025@Oxford conference was held at SoGE 29-30th September, welcoming over 175 attendees from 96 universities across 23 countries.

The conference focused on the theme of "Urban Data Analytics and the Polycrisis", and was organised by SoGE DPhil students Xiang Ao, Nicholas Chow, Dasom Hong, and Min Ruan for City+, SoGE and the Transport Studies Unit. Opening, Chair Xiang Ao emphasised how engagement with early career researchers and a focus on interdisciplinary urban studies were central to this year’s conference.

Conference recap

The conference featured 138 presentations across 23 sessions, with contributions from a number of SoGE and TSU academics including Prof Tim Schwanen, Prof Danny Dorling, Prof Charles Rahal, Dr Douglas Leasure and Dr Daniel Valdenegro.

Other SoGE students were also actively engaged in this special event. SoGE DPhil students Sangwon Chae, Lena Easton-Calabria, Pan Ei Ei Phyoe, Vrinda Jariwala, Nethmi Jayaratne Kariyawasam, Sieun Lee, Yi Fan Liu, Clive Parkinson, Camila Ramos, Yue Yin, Shan Yu, Zhaoqi Zhou, along with SoGE graduate Junior Mbangala, chaired sessions covering a wide range of topics, including accessibility and mobility, urban justice, spatial inequality, urban design, smart cities, and urban resilience. SoGE DPhil students Alice Jardine and Bikem Pastine supported the event as volunteers.
