We’re delighted to share a newly published paper co-authored by our Postdoctoral Researcher, Ivo Syndicus providing a groundbreaking assessment of the British poultry industry in the context of avian influenza.
The research offers valuable insights into the poultry sector in Britain and will be of interest to researchers and professionals working in poultry, animal health, epidemiology, and related fields in Britain and beyond.

Animal biosecurity in small-scale farming settings: case studies from Cambodia, Kosovo and Lao People's Democratic Republic
11 September 2026 | 14:00–15:00 CEST
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Animal Biosecurity Association (WABA) Scientific and Information Committee are organizing a new webinar series addressing relevant topics related to the concepts and application of biosecurity in animal populations. The initiative looks at how biosecurity can be consistently and sustainably implemented across educational, institutional, and field settings, contributing to improved animal health and production, One Health and food security. This webinar will explore practical biosecurity challenges and evidence-based solutions in smallholder systems. The session will present findings from Kosovo, where extensive small ruminant production systems face emerging threats such as peste des petits ruminants (PPR), highlighting the urgent need to adapt biosecurity tools to local realities. It will also feature insights from Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic on African swine fever (ASF), drawing on a knowledge, attitudes and practices survey to better understand farmers’ awareness and behaviours in highly vulnerable pig production systems. Together, these case studies will provide valuable lessons for strengthening biosecurity in resource-constrained settings and inform policy and field-level interventions, making this webinar highly relevant for practitioners, researchers, and policymakers working in animal health and One Health.
