Dr Louise Slater has been awarded the Gill Memorial Award for outstanding early career research in physical geography in the 2021 Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) honours.

The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) medals and awards recognise 23 different people or organisations for their outstanding contributions to geographical research, fieldwork and teaching, and public engagement.

Louise's research seeks to understand the impacts of climate change on river systems and the influence this has on flood hazard and risk. Her pioneering techniques have unlocked archives of hydrological data.

Dr Louise Slater said, "I feel incredibly honoured to receive the Gill Memorial Award. I am grateful to the Royal Geographical Society and IBG, to my nominators, former advisors, colleagues, students, friends and family."

The medals and awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Society in London later in the year once social distancing restrictions have been lifted.
