In the Wake of Dead Ice: Glacial Remains in Iceland

Academic Profile

Annika is a DPhil candidate in Geography interested in the socio-cultural impacts of extinction. Her current research examines the material and affective afterlives of extinct glaciers in Iceland, contributing to discussions on extinction, loss, and mourning in the Anthropocene.

Previously, for her master's dissertation, Annika employed qualitative mixed methods to investigate competitive birding culture in the United States. There, she analyzed engagements with threatened avian environments, exploring both what it means to attune to birds and broader environments during the Sixth Mass Extinction, and what it means to "win" in a time marred by loss.
