Will is a Research Assistant with the REACH Programme, working on the Smart Handpumps project. He recently finished a PhD at the Centre for Water Systems, University of Exeter, which investigated novel pre-payment smart meters for rural water supply in sub-Saharan Africa. This research incorporated hydraulic engineering, social science, environmental science, economics, climate change, and policy components, and focused on rural communities in Tanzania and The Gambia.
Will has an MChem in Chemistry from the University of York, and conducted his Master's research in Mumbai on heavy metal pollution in municipal wastewater and methods of remediation, as part of IIT Bombay and the University of Mumbai. After a period at the UN Environment Programme's Global Wastewater Initiative in Nairobi, Will worked for an NGO supporting delegations from developing countries and small island states to the UNFCCC climate change summits.
