Dr Joel Rodney
Laboratory Manager
Laboratory Manager
Joel is a geochemist who manages the Geolabs in the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford. The Geolabs provides technical support to students and researchers carrying out laboratory work and fieldwork.
Joel was awarded a PhD from the University of Bristol in 2023 in Geology. His research focused on tracing the geochemical cycles of elements (e.g., uranium and molybdenum) on the Earth’s surface and in the Earth’s silicate interior using isotopes. His research has tackled questions ranging from changes in the redox conditions on the Earth’s surface to crustal recycling processes in the mantle. Joel has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bristol (2023-2025), and then at the United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory (2025-2026), before joining the School of Geography and the Environment in 2026 to support the running of the Geolabs.
