Training diplomats

Fiona McConnell, working with Ruth Craggs and Jonathan Harris of KCL Geography, has launched a new website for their collaborative project "Training Diplomats of Postcolonial African States 1957-1997", funded by the Leverhulme Trust.

In the past century, decolonisation saw numerous new African countries enter into international relations as sovereign states. Many of the first generation of African diplomats were trained abroad, in Europe, North America, as well as in Africa. This project analyses the geopolitical dynamics of this diplomatic training through a focus on the spaces, networks, and power relations of learning to be a diplomat.

The website features a monthly blog series, a project map and general information about the project that will develop as the project progresses.
