Stranded assets in downstream SMEs in Thailand: Assessing risks and resilience

Academic Profile

Swisa Pongpech is a DPhil student at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment (SSEE) under the direction of Dr Ben Caldecott of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group, researching on stranded assets and transition finance.

Prior to her doctoral studies, Swisa was Head of Research Group (Sustainability) at the Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research (PIER), Bank of Thailand. She had also served as the inaugural Deputy Director of the Sustainable Banking Division at the Bank of Thailand, where she played a key role in laying the foundation and driving the financial sector commitment to sustainable finance.

Throughout her career of over twenty years, she has gained extensive experience working in a broad range of central banking functions and was responsible for the assessment and formulation of policies related to financial landscape development, financial liberization, financial inclusion and financial markets. She also represented the Bank in several ASEAN working groups and FTA negotiations.

She holds an M.B.A. in Finance and Strategic Management from SASIN Graduate Institute of Business Administration, Chulalongkorn University and a Bachelors degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
