Understanding climate risks to optimise wheat farming practices in south-eastern Australia
Academic Profile
Kate is a DPhil student in the Climate lab, interested in the impact of climate variability on agriculture.
Her research focuses on wheat production in south-eastern Australia, and understanding how farming practices could be used to maintain or increase wheat yields under increasing drying trends in the region.
By combining technical agronomic experience with crop and climate modelling, Kate hopes to be able to provide growers with practical information about the ideal time of sowing, cultivar selection and nitrogen fertiliser strategy that can be implemented on-farm.
Kate holds a BSc(Hons) from Monash University and an MPhil in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford. Before starting her DPhil, Kate worked as a Research Agronomist, conducting field research and extension across the Wimmera and Mallee regions of Australia.
