Negotiating a Livelihood amidst Power and Precarity: The Case of Van Drivers in Beirut

Academic Profile

Jana is a first-year PhD student at the Transport Studies Unit, supervised by Professor Tim Schwanen. She holds a master’s degree in Transport and City Planning from University College London and a BE in Civil Engineering from the Lebanese American University. Jana has worked on transportation projects in a number of research and consultancy positions. Her PhD project at the TSU examines the way in which van drivers negotiate their livelihoods through everyday practices. She uses qualitative methods and considers the social, economic, historical, and colonial context and its role in the livelihoods of drivers.
