Designing a Warming World: Power and Knowledge in the Global Governance of Sinking Cities 

Florian’s DPhil research focuses on the global discourse and actor networks behind climate adaptation for cities which are existentially threatened by sea-level rise. Florian wants to know how the future for these cities is imagined, where those imaginaries come from, how they are circulated globally, by whom, and with what impacts on policy outcomes. Theoretically, Florian draws upon poststructuralism and Science and Technology studies. His project combines a postpositivist theoretical framework with methods such as Social Network Analysis and Natural Language Processing. 

Florian is funded by the German Academic Scholarship Association. Prior to coming to Oxford, Florian was working as a Pre-Doc at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Vienna. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Hamburg and an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His wider research interests include power and domination in international climate politics, the political economy of climate politics, computational social science methods, and the interface of digitalisation and sustainability.
