The Effect of Net-Zero Structural Transformation on People and Places

Academic Profile

Ebba Mark is a DPhil student with Climate Econometrics, the Institute for New Economic Thinking, and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. Her research focuses on understanding the complex geographical, social, and economic impacts of environmental and energy system transformation, with a particular emphasis on what constitutes a 'Just Transition.' She applies econometric, spatial, and agent-based modelling methods grounded in economic geography and climate/environmental/energy justice literature. Her work aims to advance empirical insights to inform the scale and type of Just Transition policies necessary for societies striving to meet net-zero objectives.

Previously, Ebba worked as Junior Policy Advisor to the OECD Chief of Staff and G20/G7 Sherpa in Paris as part of the Organisation’s Young Associate Programme. In this role, she supported the Chief of Staff in advancing her strategic agenda, including the coordination of the organisation’s gender equality, social policy, and inclusive growth work.

Ebba holds an MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford and a BA in Economics from Harvard University. She is a Calleva Graduate Scholar at Magdalen College and a Europaeum Scholar.
