Remote sensing methods to verify carbon credit project claims in tropical forests
Academic Profile
Emily is a DPhil student affiliated with the Environmental Change Institute and the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery at the University of Oxford. Supervised by Professor Yadvinder Malhi, her research focusses on how remote sensing methods can be used to identify disturbance and estimate biomass, and the application of these methods to verify carbon credit project claims in REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) schemes in tropical forests. Her work is funded by the Dr Yungtai Hsu Scholarship, associated with St John’s College.
Before her DPhil, Emily completed an MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance at the University of Oxford under Professor Dame Sarah Whatmore, where her dissertation examined the role of scientific uncertainty in climate litigation cases, and a BA from the University of Melbourne.
