Academic Profile

Adam has had a varied career, living and working in Japan, South Africa and Australia in law, finance and industry. Between 2006 and 2012 he was chairman and chief executive of the Williams Formula One team. Adam has a VC portfolio and chairs Oxford Semantic Technologies Limited, an AI spin-out of the University's Department of Computer Science, and Cheesecake Energy Limited, a compressed air energy storage company spun out of the University of Nottingham.

Adam also chairs Homeland Conservation, a charitable trust focused on the reform of agriculture for the benefit of the climate, environment and food security.

Adam holds an MA from Cambridge University and a PhD from UCL University of London. His doctoral research was published as The Mandate of Heaven — Strategy, Revolution, and the First European Translation of Sunzi's Art of War (1772) by Brill in November 2019.

Adam is also the author of The Art of War - Five Years in Formula One; and co-author of Total Competition - Lessons in Strategy from Formula One.
