EDI Policy and Procedures
Flexible Working
Flexible working is essentially a variation to the standard full-time working pattern at SoGE. Flexible working could look like you reducing your hours, changing your start and finish times or working remotely.
What constitutes flexible working is varied but common examples are:
- Part-time working
- Staggered working hours (early/late start/finish, longer break during the day)
- Term-time only working
- Working from home
- Compressed hours (for example working longer days over a reduced period of time, so compressing 5 days worth of hours into 4 days)
You can request a temporary or permanent change to your working hours.
Applications for flexible working can be made informally by agreement between yourself and your line manager or through the formal flexible working scheme.
New Ways of Working
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed work for many of our staff. The university have therefore created the New Ways of Working Framework to enable the University to evolve balancing providing an environment that enables our staff to be effective and fulfilled whilst also spporting the University’s mission.
Shared Parental Leave
From 1 January 2020, the University removed the length of service criterion for enhanced family leave where possible. However, shared Parental Leave and Pay can require both parents to qualify for the statutory portion.
Shared parental leave is a complex scheme and we would encourage you to talk to HR as soon as possible if this is something you want to explore.
Family Leave
The university has enhanced family leave policies as part of our commitment to embedding EDI into our culture.
Menopause Policy
Menopause can be a difficult topic to broach but it’s important we create a space where people feel able to share their experience and ask for the support they need. It affects everyone differently. Learn more about supporting yourself, others and the menopause itself by reading these pages.
Harassment and Bullying
SoGE is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where we are respected and treated with dignity.
