Training and Data Support Officer (Scientific Computing)

Gwyneth Bradbury is Training and Data Support Officer, a role aimed at enabling and supporting research using computational techniques. She will be identifying training needs among research groups and looking at the way data is stored and accessed within the department. Gwyneth aims to support projects by leveraging her varied academic and technical background, providing access to and support in new scientific computing techniques.

Gwyneth has a background in Mathematics and Computer Science and has previously worked for Arup as a software programmer, particularly for dynamic thermal models as well as prototyping new analysis tools for pedestrian comfort. Prior to this, Gwyneth completed a Doctorate in Engineering (EngD) at UCL where she worked with Disney Research to create novel production tools for natural worlds and landscapes. The project aimed to used real world data in combination with Machine Learning, Image Processing and Procedural, agent-based models to create more realistic natural scenes which could be easily edited to conform to artistic constraints or to react more realistically to environmental changes. During this time she also looked at using machine learning to approximate urban wind interference, exploiting large model banks to reduce computational analysis time.

Interests: Agent-based modelling, applied machine learning, landscape modelling, geospatial databases, …
