Dr Fiona Ferbrache’s book Transit Oriented Development and Sustainable Cities, which she co-edited with Richard D. Knowles (Emeritus Professor of Transport Geography, University of Salford), has been counted in the top ten percent of titles reviewed by Choice Magazine in 2019.

Transit Oriented Development and Sustainable CitiesPublished by Edward Elgar Publishing, Ferbrache’s book provides insight to urban sustainability issues, notably around transport, planning and (re)development, and brings together a range of empirical research from eight countries across four continents. It was “highly recommended” for its “broad and substantial overview” of Transit Oriented Development by Choice Magazine.

Choice Magazine, published by the Association of College and Research Libraries, considers all of the academic book publishing across Humanities, Social Sciences and Science each year. In 2019 they reviewed 4,800 and awarded Outstanding Academic Title Awards to 513 titles. Its Outstanding Academic Titles are “highly regarded in the academic community, and used by librarians to identify the most innovative and valuable titles for collection.”

Dr Fiona Ferbrache, Research Associate in Transport Geography at the Transport Studies Unit and College Lecturer at Keble College comments: “It is a great honour to have our book recognised internationally in this way and it credits the hard work of all the contributors, my co-editor Richard Knowles, and the team who brought it to publication at Edward Elgar Publishing. The Outstanding Academic Title potentially facilitates our ability to access new audiences, which is exactly what we hope to achieve given the potential value of transit oriented development to contemporary and sustainable urban development.”

The book will be part of an exhibit of all the Outstanding Academic Title winners at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Conference in January 2020.
