Professor Gordon Clark
On Friday 2 November 2018, over 120 participants paid tribute to Professor Gordon Clark for his 23 year contribution to the research and teaching activities at the School of Geography and the Environment, Head of SoGE (2003 - 2008) and most recently as Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment (2013-2018).
Professor Meric Gertler (President, University of Toronto) provided an in depth insight into Gordon's academic career and legacy to the economic geography field, followed by presentations from Professor Roger Goodman (former Head, Social Sciences Division), Sir Martin Smith (Founder, The Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment) and Professor Kathy Willis (former SoGE colleague and President, St Edmund Hall). Kathy ended with a review Gordon's legacy to teaching, most critically in establishing the five Masters programme at SoGE and in his enthusiastic supervision of DPhil students. Gordon will continue to support the REF for SoGE as well as the Agile Protection Research Project at SSEE.
The day ended with a very enjoyable dinner at Lady Margaret Hall. Thanks to Donna Palfreman and Jan Burke for their excellent organisation of this important event.
