Karlstad University's Professor André Jansson commented that Gillian was an "obvious choice" for the Ander professorship, which is awarded annually to a person who, through research or media-related activities, has made significant efforts to deepen knowledge about the importance of media in a globalized world.
Professor Gillian Rose
As Ander Visiting Professor, Gillian Rose will work with research staff and students at Karlstad University over the 2018-19 academic year. On Thursday 20 September she will deliver her inaugural lecture on her current research, entitled 'Urban / digital / visual: seeing the city in digital times'.
Her lecture will explore what it means to residents and researchers when cities are visualised through a wide range of digital technologies. What and who becomes visible in these digitally transmitted cities - and how? What forms of urban rhythms, space and social life are depicted and how do we form theories around the images?
Professor Rose commented, "I'm delighted and honoured to be the Ander Visiting Professor in Geomedia Studies at Karlstad University this academic year. The insights of the Geomedia team at Karlstad will strengthen my own work on the many ways in which cities are visualised digitally."
The Ander Visiting Professor in Geomedia Studies is financialy supported by the Anne-Marie and Gustaf Andersen Foundation for Media Research, Media and Communication Studies.
