The Anti-Dam Protest Cycle: Evidence from Asia



Julian Kirchherr is a project manager at McKinsey & Company. From 2017 to 2018, Julian worked as an assistant professor for sustainable business and innovation studies at the Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University. He pursued his doctorate at the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford. His research investigated social safeguards in Chinese-led dam projects, anti-dam-movements and large dams' socio-economic impacts. His regional focus was Asia.

Prior to joining the University of Oxford, Julian was a consultant and (junior) project manager at McKinsey & Company. He has also worked as a journalist for more than ten years publishing articles in outlets such as The Guardian, Huffington Post, China Daily, Myanmar Times and Süddeutsche Zeitung. At the age of 20, he was elected as City Councilor in Werl, Germany, and also served as a County Councilor in Soest, Germany.
