Careers Advice

University of Oxford Careers Service - Alumni Careers Adviser: Michael Moss

Oxford Careers Network

The Oxford Careers Network (OCN) is confidential to Oxford Students and Alumni on the Career Connect portal. Over 2,300 Alumni have described their careers on OCN and last year more than 1700 students contacted them for information and mentoring.

1. Potential alumni mentors

Students can search the profiles and contact potential mentors within the system and only learn the contact details of the mentor when the mentor replies to the initial contact.

Steps to become a mentor:

  • Go to Career Connect.
  • Next to "ALUMNI MENTORS" click to register.
  • Enter as much information as you want and save.
  • If you would like to get more involved with the Careers Service please send an e-mail to alumni@careers.ox.ac.uk

For potential mentors it is very important that they load their own information into the system, so forwarding their name to the careers service does not really help. A short guide to alumni careers is attached for completeness.

2. Jobseeking alumni

Job-seeking alumni can search the profiles and contact potential mentors within the system and only learn the contact details of the mentor when the mentor replies to the initial contact.

Steps to find a mentor (if you are an alumnus/a):

  • Go to Career Connect.
  • Next to "ALUMNI MENTORS" click to register.
  • Enter as much information as you want and save.
  • If you would like to get more involved with the Careers Service please send an e-mail to alumni@careers.ox.ac.uk
3. A student looking for a mentor

Mentor-seeking students can search the profiles and contact potential mentors within the system and only learn the contact details of the mentor when the mentor replies to the initial contact.

Steps to find a mentor (if you are a student):

  • Mentor-seeking students will need a password for Career Connect, by e-mailing or calling reception@careers.ox.ac.uk on 01865 2274646.
  • Go to Career Connect.
  • Enter Career Connect as an "OXFORD STUDENT".
  • Click on Oxford Career Network Search, search profiles and press "Contact Mentor" when you have found an alum you want to talk to.

If you would like to get more help from the Careers Service please send an e-mail to reception@careers.ox.ac.uk or book an appointment at 56 Banbury Road on Career Connect.
