Oxford Geography Research Paper Series
The School of Geography and the Environment publishes its own series of Research Papers, providing a showcase for research by academic staff and research students. Papers are peer reviewed by both internal and external referees. The publications are widely distributed within the UK and internationally.
Each edition contains one paper of approximately 10,000 words, providing a unique opportunity for authors to present and discuss their research findings in detail.
The editors gratefully receive papers submitted by academic staff, post-graduates and others affiliated to the School. In particular, graduate students are strongly encouraged to offer papers to the Series. This is an excellent opportunity to experience peer review and publication processes early in an academic career.
Instructions for Authors
Manuscripts should be submitted to: The Editors of the Research Papers, School of Geography and the Environment, South Parks, Oxford, OX1 3QY, UK. Potential authors should note that Research Papers are not usually published more than twice a year, with each edition consisting of a single research paper. Papers are peer reviewed by two referees, one internal to the department and one external (though the editors reserve the right to limit the review process to one internal referee if manuscripts are to be rejected). It is recommended that potential authors contact the editors to discuss potential submissions before sending a manuscript.
Three paper copies along with one identical electronic copy on DVD, CD or floppy disk should be submitted, adhering to the following guidelines:
- Research Papers should be approximately 7,000 to 10,000 words in length.
- Manuscripts should be formatted with 11 point font size, should be double-spaced, and should include wide margins.
- Figures (diagrams, graphs and tables) should be included on separate pages at the end of the text. All figures must have a legend that makes the material completely understandable. Photographs can only be included if absolutely necessary due to printing costs.
- Manuscripts must include a concise abstract at the beginning.
- References should be formatted in a standard way throughout the paper. Citations must be included in the text giving authors names and date of publication eg. (Anderson, 1999; Brent and Peters, 1999; Crowther et al., 2003). A full and accurate list of references must be included at the end of the text and should be consistently formatted.
- Footnotes may be used if necessary and should be numbered sequentially through the document.
- All pages should be numbered.
