The outputs from this research
project
-
A conceptual
understanding of the relationship between patterns and processes of response to
climate changes among natural resource-reliant societies, including development
of case study material testing different climate-gradient contexts. Paper on the
equity and justice dimensions of adaptation with this output will be presented
at the Conference planned under the Justice
and Equity Strategic Assessment (8-9 Sept), and included in a resulting book
collection. Also see
the Tyndall
Seminar Series and Presentations and Meetings.
- Theoretical development
of the links between criticality and adaptive capacity, drawing on casework in
locations predicted to experience major climate changes. In particular, identification
of whether experience of adaptation to climate variability and extremes can be
drawn upon to develop appropriate strategies for adapting to anticipated climate
change. In addition, a synthesis of the debates concerning vulnerability and adaptive
capacity in resource-reliant societies to be targeted. See list of publications.
- Development of a database
for predicted climate and vegetation change in a format appropriate for informing
socio-environmental studies on adaptive capacity and vulnerability.
- Research
note series.
- Results to assist aid organizations,
other international programmes and local and regional governments in southern
Africa in developing understandings of how to better facilitate successful adaptations
and practical responses that reduce social differentiation and promote equity.
