Finance, Institutional Investors and Long-term Investing: financing a more sustainable world?

10am - 4pm, Tuesday 30 March 2010, A J Herbertson Room (Board Room), School of Geography and the Environment

The finance industry is notoriously short-term in its goals and operations, often to the detriment of the long-term interests of the environment. Through their role as major funders of business, large institutional investors have the potential to change the way many industries approach environmental and demographic risk. However, change will be difficult - industry habit, perverse incentives, and legal regimes all create roadblocks along the path to financing a sustainable world. This all-day workshop is composed of five presentations, each addressing the complex network of problems existing in this area by focusing on different aspects of institutional investment, finance and the long-term.

Please come to any or all of the presentations. Presentations will last for 30 minutes each with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow. Drinks and snacks will be served following the presentations.
