Dr Fiona Febrache and the other participants at the seminar event

On Wednesday 26 April, Dr Fiona Ferbrache (Lecturer in Human Geography) opened the presentations at a seminar event 'Britons beyond Brexit' in Alicante, Spain, with a talk on EU citizenship and the rights of British citizens living there.

Hosted at Universidad Miguel Hernández, Elche, Alicante, 'Britons beyond Brexit' brought together international academics, the Vice-Consul and Consular Official of the British Consulate (Alicante), British and European campaign groups including Bremain in Spain, Expat Citizen Rights in EU (ECREU) and Europats, as well as Britons living in Spain, to provide a platform for knowledge exchange.

Organised by Fiona and Jeremy MacClancy (Professor of Anthropology at Oxford Brookes University), the event was the first of two to be hosted with Brexit funding from the ESRC. A similar event will take place in Bordeaux in June with French-based participants, and contributes to the wider research that Fiona and Jeremy are undertaking on British migrants' experiences of (EU and national) citizenship in France and Spain.
