For many years two of our alumni have worked tirelessly to keep their year group of Oxford Geographers who matriculated in 1954 in touch - not only with each other, but also with current geographical research and the School here in Oxford. Brian Bissell (Pembroke) and Dr David Cooper (St Peter's) had organised several reunion lunches and talks at various Oxford colleges for their class mates and a growing number of friends, before they came together for a special occasion in mid-September: the diamond anniversary of their matriculation.

Pembroke College provided a beautiful setting for the lunch and complementary programme. Kendall Murphy, Pembroke's Annual Fund Officer, gave a tour of the college's new bridge and quadrangle (including the fascinating JCR art collection), Christine Baro-Hone introduced the group to the School's Alumni Relations programme and took them on a virtual tour of the new department building on South Parks Road. Professor Danny Dorling was the guest speaker with a stimulating talk about his demographic research.

Many thanks to Brian Bissell (1954, Pembroke) and his wife Jennifer for running and hosting a wonderful day.
