Invitation to Herbertson Lunch

The School of Geography and the Environment welcomes its alumni to the Oxford Alumni Weekend 2013

2013 is in many ways a special year for the School of Geography and the Environment: Not only can we celebrate being ranked the best Geography department worldwide and the arrival of new Halford Mackinder Professor of Human Geography, Danny Dorling, we are also completing the first of two phases of a major refurbishment, which will provide us with enhanced teaching and working facilities from Michaelmas Term on. Last but not least, we are very glad that with the appointment of the School’s first ever Alumni Relations Officer we are setting up our very own alumni relations programme.

But before the official launch later in autumn we would like to provide an opportunity for you to meet us during the Oxford Alumni Weekend.

On Saturday 21 September, from 10.00 to 11.15 am, Professor Richard Washington, Professor of Climate Science here at SoGE, will give a talk, Against All Odds: Recovering the first climate data from the central Sahara, at Keble College.

Afterwards, we warmly invite you to walk over to the School on South Parks Road and join us for a light lunch that we have named Herbertson Lunch – in memory of the famous undergraduate society which was conceived exactly 90 years ago.

See the Herbertson Lunch on the Alumni Weekend website.

While our building as well as our alumni programme might still be under construction, we would like to give you a preview of our work in progress, showcase the research which our academics are currently working on, and learn about your thoughts on how you would like to engage with the School in the future.

Our Alumni Weekend speaker, Professor Richard Washington, Geography Librarian Sue Bird, Christine Baro, the Alumni Relations Officer, and myself will be there for your questions, ideas and feedback.

A J Herbertson
